The sun shone at Ilkley Golf Club enabling 58 ladies to enjoy Ilkley GC at its best, the course being beautifully presented and the glorious views all around were on full display.

Our thanks to all at Ilkley Golf Club for their help in ensuring the success of the day. Kathy in the office and Marie-Louise Milbourn liaised with our Hon Competition Secretary, Mel Couchman, to set up the competition and DagmarHecker-Woodhead and Marie-Louise greeted everyone on the Registration Desk and with Ilkley Lady Captain, Marie Scott sorted out the results as players came in.

The Greens staff did an excellent job in preparing the course and Jaine Collington and her staff ensured we had plenty of refreshments before and after play. A special thank you also to Marie-Louise who walked the course to mark the card of one pair and to her husband who performed the role of Starter for the day.

Match v The Gentlemen at Romanby Golf Club - 5th June

A full field of ten pairs from each side battled it out in challenging windy conditions but this at least helped to keep the rain away!

There were some great matches, played in very good spirit and much camaraderie at the meal following the golf. Sadly, we lost 4-6 but it was a respectable finish and grateful thanks to all who supported and played for the Society.

Thanks also to Romanby Greens staff for their presentation of the course and to the catering team who looked after everyone both before with sandwiches and snacks and after the match with an excellent 2 course meal.

2027 Fixtures

We are already lloking towards next year's fixtures and Mel Couchman, our Competition Secretary is doing an excellent job negotiating green fees on our behalf but, inevitably, prices are having to rise. However, these golf events and the chance to win prizes and meet up with ladies from other HDU clubs still represent excellent value.

European Meeting 2026 at Lake Lucerne, Switzerland

Twelve Society members representing seven HDU clubs flew to Switzerland to play in the European Meeting in June.

The SALGC made us very welcome with excellent hospitality and organised a fantastic week for us all playing with ladies from Switzerland, Belgium and Liverpool at Engleberg GC with breathtaking views, Krussnach GC, a very hilly and challenging course and Sempach GC with its impressive clubhouse and lake views. We were also treated to a boat trip from our hotel in Brunnen to the beautiful city of Lucerne.

A week of great golf, camaraderie amongst all nationalities and many friendships renewed and new ones made. Congratulations to several of uour ladies who were amongst the prize winners - all of us came away with so many special memories of a wonderful trip.

The next European Meeting will be hosted by the BALGC in Belgium in 2028 when the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the event will be celebrated.

Match v Bradford Society of Lady Golf Captains on Monday 27th July 2026

On Monday, the Harrogate and District Society of Lady Golf Captains welcomed the Bradford Society of Lady Golf Captains to
Oakdale Golf Club for our biennial match. It was an enjoyable day with the golf being played in challenging conditions of wind
and dry ground and with Bradford ladies on top form, they won the matches 7:3.

We enjoyed hospitality and lively conversation in the clubhouse with bacon sandwiches before play and a delicious meal afterwards.

Many thanks to Mel Couchman, our Competitions Secretary who made all the arrangements and also to Oakdale Golf Club for
looking after us on the day.
